Types of Fat


Hey reader, welcome to another post in which we are going to explore the different types of fats.
Always we hear that we must stay away from eating bad fats and try to choose the good ones, but what are the types of fat? And what are the good ones?

Fats consist of wide group of chemical compounds that contain fatty acids.
Fats are a part of the foods that carries flavor, which means that all foods taste comes from the fats molecules that exist in it and when the body stores energy it stores it as fat.

We all know about the common fats that contained in various foods, for example the meat contains animal fat and most baked pies contain vegetable oils, and fried foods are cooked in heated oils, that means that there are many different kinds of fat.

So what are the types of fats?

There are two types of fats, saturated and unsaturated fat. Saturated fat maintained its hardness at room temperature, the unsaturated fat are those which are in the liquid state at room temperature. The good example of unsaturated fats is vegetable oils.

The most fats contain the two types together, saturated and unsaturated like olive oil. Olive bottle contains both types, but the saturated fats are dissolved in the unsaturated fats, to separate them we can put the bottle in the refrigerator, then the saturated fat will solidify and precipitate and the unsaturated fats will remain liquid. The unsaturated fats are healthier than saturated fats because they contain less energy and work as a sort of antioxidant.

The fats that we eat enter the digestive system and meet with lipase enzyme that breaks fat into fatty acids and glycerol. These components are then reassembled into Triglycerides and then transported through the bloodstream, the muscle cells and fatty cells absorb this compound either to store it or to burn it as fuel.

The right amount of calories we need to eat from fat every day is 30% of the total of calories, taking into account that one gram of fat contains 9 calories.
Women need to eat an average of 60 to 75 grams of fat every day. Men can eat 90 grams with taking into account that you can eat more calories when you exercise.
